Anna Kostreva - Architectural Technologist

After studying architecture at university, Anna has been working in the industry since 2009. She has worked in various architecture offices across the globe and has created projects as part of her own practice, Plural Studio. Anna also teaches architecture and has published two novels, Seeing Fire | Seeing Meadows and Berlin: A Morphology of Walls. Find them here.

Anna joined Hawkland because of her appreciation for meaningful research and the implementation of details in retrofitting and natural building. She says, “I think this expertise is often lost in the industry because of the split between architecture offices and building companies. With Hawkland’s design-build company model there is fluid communication between theory and practise, making the idealism of sustainability economical and practical.”

In her role as an Architectural Technologist, Anna particularly enjoys the finer details of sustainable design as well as the opportunity to collaborate with unique clients, experts and craftspeople. She says, “I have the confidence that these projects will actually get built according to the principles we all believe in. I also really enjoy the team!”

Anna values ecological design because she recognised the importance of prioritising needs over profit within the construction industry. Her scepticism of the political conditions currently producing new buildings sparked a career change from architecture to retrofit and natural building. In her spare time, you might find Anna walking across beaches or through forests. She also tutors architecture students at the University of Bath and is looking forward to working with them on designing with material and structural concepts, as well as hand drafting.
